30: “Help Me, Help You!” featuring LVT & Practice Manager, Jade Velasquez

Perhaps the veterinarian's biggest assets in practice are support staff.  Support staff can either make or break your success as a DVM, which is why it is so important that we do everything we can to support and build a healthy relationship with our team members in the clinic.  In this episode, Seth welcomes on licensed veterinary technician and practice manager, Jade Velasquez, to talk about this relationship, ways to make it stronger and more productive, and things to watch out for that may create a less-than-ideal relationship.

Jade Velasquez is a licensed technician of 11 years and recently became a practice manager.  She has worked a mix of emergency medicine and general practice. She loves critical care, dentistry while her passion truly lies in team building and leadership. Creating and building on a cohesive, supportive and positive team is her focus.  In 2014, she started a Facebook group Veterinary Support Staff Unleashed to offer a support network for support staff and students of veterinary technology. That group has grown to over 11,000 members. In the group, the mission has been to discuss the emotional aspect of veterinary medicine, promote education and provide emotional support for members. She is currently president of Washington State Association of Veterinary Technicians, is chair of NAVTA's PR committee and sits on NAVTA's Membership committee. She is also a regular guest author for DrAndyRoark.com. In her free time, she reads, writes, spends time with her 11 year old son and 2 crazy Basenji's while adding memorabilia to her horror genre collection.
